Welcome to ETM’s second edition for 2011, our biggest issue yet and the first issue I’m
proud to have worked on as the new managing editor. I’d also like to introduce another
member to the team, our editor, Chiara Dichiera.

In other exciting news ETM is now available to download as an app on the iPad and
iPhone. By searching for Enterprise Technology Management at the Apple app store you
can access the entire digital magazine with just a click of a button.

Dedicated to keeping pace with this ever-changing industry, ETM was part of the
thousands of IT professionals attending the 16th annual Infosecurity Europe event. It was
a fantastic opportunity to find out the security challenges facing companies and the latest
products and services offered by solution providers.

As always, security is on most executive’s radars and ETM has an alarming read [page
16] about Secunia’s end-point security research findings. Also looking at this critical area,
EMA’s Managing Research Director, Scott Crawford, discusses vulnerability intelligence
with a panel of experts [page 20], and Qualys, IBM and Cenzic cover application security
[page 100]. And don’t miss what the leaders at McAfee, Webroot and Edgewave say about
web and email security [page 84].

While security was a constant priority this quarter, our sights were set a little higher
– the cloud. IDG ’s recent forecast is that public cloud services adoption will grow at more
than five times the rate of the IT industry to 29 billion this year, with private cloud services
predicted to grow faster than public. As our interviews with leading industry experts in this
area show, cloud is spreading and evolving rapidly.

Read about IBM’s latest cloud offering [page 12] and the importance of the network to
cloud in an interview with Masergy’s CEO [page 28]. CSC discusses the growing adoption
of cloud [page 54] and Model Metrics tells ETM about cloud mobilization [page 126].
Other pressing industry topics are also featured in this comprehensive edition,
including an engaging discussion on manage file transfers [page 30] with Ptak, Noel
& Associates’ Mike Karp and executives from Accellion, Cyber-Ark, Datamotion and
YouSendIt. An insight into the world of virtualization and optimization [pages 92, 96,
130] and a number of other issues are covered throughout.

Plus, we have three research pieces addressing cloud adoption, managing the risk for
mobile IT users and bandwidth management.

After reading this fantastic edition I’m sure you will agree we deliver on our promise as
the knowledge source for IT executives.
