Mobile devices are profoundly changing the work environment - a trend that is getting harder to avoid for most businesses. A new report, The Impact of Mobile Devices on Information Security, reveals the number of personal mobile devices connecting to the corporate network has more than doubled in the past two years. While businesses are steadily accepting this new world, their IT departments face increasing challenges – namely security and budgetary pressure.
The mobile device wave will roll through 2012 according to Quorcirca’s analyst and director, Bob Tarzey, who presents his outlook on the growth of mobile consumerization (page 10), and discusses the benefits of enabling employees to u se their own devices.
On page 14, our ETM panel of McAfee, Symantec and Juniper continues the mobile discussion, and our interview with Avaya on page 20 further explores the result of rapid mobile deployment by employees on the enterprise.
We find out what else will be making waves this year, as our analyst partners, Paul Burns and Matthew Lees, present their predictions for 2012 in the area of cloud computing and social software (pages 28 and 50). And of course, no edition of ETM is complete without a look at the latest developments in IT security, and on page 36 we feature a thoughtprovoking roundtable on identity and access management.
With the explosion in digital content showing no signs of easing, we hear from Doug Miles of the Association for Information and Image Management as he joins a panel of experts to help find meaning in the information deluge (page 54).
Many of the biggest issues facing the industry and more are addressed in this edition of ETM. All interviews featured are available to listen to at globaletm.com, where you can also find free access to educational resources on enterprise technology management.
Thanks for joining us again in 2012, when ETM will deliver even more of the information you need to stay connected with industry developments.
